Obama boosts sales?

25 years of Bausch + Stroebel's US branch
Despite the economic and financial crisis, packaging machinery specialist Bausch+Ströbel (B+S) has not seen a drop in its US business. On the contrary, increased incoming orders are expected.
Ilshofen/North Branford. When talking to the management from Ilshofen during the Pack Expo trade fair in Chicago, Markus Hörsch, B+S' North America Sales Manager presentet a positive view of future prospects. He sees two reasons why the manufacturer of pharmaceutical processing machines for disposable ampoules and pre-filled syringes needs not fear declining sales in the USA. Firstly, he notes that the economic situation results in staff cutbacks in the pharmaceutical industry thus opening the door for future investments in modern machinery with a higher degree of automation.
Secondly, the US pharmaceuticals industry followed the outcome of the presidential election with great interest. The reason was that Barack Obama's election program included the introduction of a comprehensive health care system. Many people in the USA currently do not have health insurance and therefore cannot afford medications. Hörsch predicts that if a broad health care system for all Americans were put in place, this would mean a perceptible increase in medical drug sales.
However, the pharmaceutical industry also expects the blanket coverage to result in government controlled pricing
Pack Expo in Chicago marks the close of Bausch + Stroebel's exhibition activities in North America for this year. Hörsch and his team were in Philadelphia in March (Interphex), in Montreal, Canada in September (Interphex Canada), in San Diego in October (Pre-filled Syringe Conference and Exhibition) and also that month in Boca Raton, Florida (ISPE Annual Meeting), and finally at the Pack Expo in Chicago in November.
